Blue Star Jets

bluestar jets.gifCNBC recently featured Todd Rome, President of Blue Star Jets on a holiday segment. Rom described the rapid growth of his outsourced jet travel firm ($100MM in revenues; 30% growth year over year; privately-held).

Essentially a limousine service for the air, Blue Star Jets provides “Any jet, any time, any place” via its network of 2500 jets in 5000 airports across the U.S. Blue Star Jets acts as a broker for FAA licensed aircraft and can arrange private jet travel with as little as 4 hours of notice.

In the three minute video segment, Rome touted their flexible pre-paid travel pricing model, which ranges from Blue for $50,000 to Black for $1MM. With no acquisition costs and no monthly fee, Rome says the cards allow travelers to choose “the best aircraft for the trip and only pay for what they use.” The company website provides a good chart comparing their model to fractional jet ownership.

The firm boasts celebrity clients such as Sammy Sosa and Dennis Leary and offers aircraft from helicopters to jumbo jets. At an average of $3000 per hour for an 8 passenger jet (source: Elite Traveler), Blue Star Jets offers a viable alternative to last minute first class tickets – and even arranges in-flight yoga or plastic surgery on request.
