Apple Computer CEO, Steve Jobs is famous for accepting a salary of only $1 dollar a year. But before we hand Jobs the selfless business man of the millennium award, let’s at least remember that he’s received, oh, a few hundred million dollars or so in stock options and bonuses, and of course that most envied perk of perks: use of Apple’s Gulfstream V corporate jet. Now, according to an article on Silicon Alley Insider, Wall Street prognosticators are looking to Jobs’ use of the private jet and linking his flight time to their forecasts for the company. Jobs flew three times as much on the Gulfstream V during the quarter ending in December than he did on average for the previous six quarters. Because Apple relies on Jobs’ strong negotiating skills to hammer out deals with foreign manufacturers and retailers, it’s being reasoned that this increase in travel means that Apple is ramping up for something big. Of course, all of this assumes that Jobs was flying across the world on his Gulfstream conducting business, and not, say taking the family on some well earned trips to Hawaii and Aspen.
