James Butler – Bio

James D. Butler is the Chief Executive Officer of Shaircraft Solutions, Bethesda, Maryland. Since 1997, Mr. Butler has been advising clients on their investments in private air travel. Clients have included professional golfers Scott Hoch, Scott Verplank and Bob Tway as well as Hall of Fame football star and broadcaster, Howie Long. Mr. Butler also has worked with corporate clients, including SFX, a division of Clear Channel Communications, Protective Life Corporation, and Soundpath Conferencing, LLC.

Mr. Butler is one of the most respected authorities in private air travel today. He authors a bi-monthly column entitled “Inside Fractionals” for Business Jet Traveler magazine, has appeared on CNN, CNN/SI and Fox News, and has been cited in articles by the Wall Street Journal, Robb Report, Boston Globe, Town & Country Magazine, Aviation International News and Business & Commercial Aviation.

An attorney by trade, Mr. Butler established The Law Offices of James D. Butler in 1992, specializing in corporate and business transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, secured debt financings, corporate organizations, and general corporate and business counseling. Clients have included Philip Morris, George WashingtonUniversity and GeorgetownUniversity, as well as Olympian Dan Jansen and professional golfer John Daly.

Before launching his legal practice, Mr. Butler was an associate attorney for six years with the law firm of Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C., and served as a law clerk for Bernard M. Decker, Senior Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Chicago). A cum laude graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, Mr. Butler also holds a Master of Science degree in Government from the London School of Economics (awarded with highest distinction) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado College (awarded summa cum laude). He was a semifinalist for both the Rhodes Scholarship and the Truman Congressional Scholarship. Mr. Butler is married and has two children.
